Job Opportunity – Market Manager

Our Market Manager is retiring! We are looking for an energetic, well-organized and dedicated individual to take over this year-round, part-time role as of May 2018 and help support our amazing vendors and customers and build on our reputation as Victoria’s premier farmers market.

Hours: May through October (regular season markets): Approximately 8 hours per week. Saturdays, 7:30am to 3:00pm plus some other mid-week materials gathering, reporting, and organizing. Two Saturdays off per regular season. November through April (winter markets): Approximately 3.5 hours per week. (Saturdays, 9:00am to 12:30pm) plus approximately 40 hours for our Holiday Market (second weekend in December). Two Saturdays off per off season.

Pay: $20/hour, plus 4% vacation pay

Duties: Supported by Executive Director, the Market Manager is responsible for the coordination of all day-of-market operations, ensuring the adherence to market policies and procedures while vendors and customers are being cared for and supported. The Market Manager organizes vendor stall assignments, collects membership and stall fees, manages three staff and additional volunteers, coordinates and assists in marker setup and tear down, and handles any arising customer inquiries and vendor issues.

The position requires working outdoors and in all weather. The Market Manager must be capable to meet the physical demands of the position (lifting, carrying, equipment set up and tear down). The ideal candidate will be a ‘people person’, with great communication skills, an experienced leader, is self-motivated, confident and able to take initiative, and who is committed to promoting local food producers and artisans.

The Market Manager is expected to do some work from home and must possess a computer. Some spreadsheet skills and money-handing experience would be a benefit. The ideal candidate will possess a valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle able to transport market materials & equipment and hold a valid CPR and first aid certificate.
